Overview
Tamaulipas é uma instalação urbana permanente que incentiva o jogo entre gerações. O local, semelhante a um jardim, tinha uma reputação negativa, com iluminação e manutenção deficientes e consumo de drogas. A insegurança dos vizinhos e dos visitantes afastava-os ou obrigava-os a percorrer caminhos mais longos até ao jardim de infância, à escola primária e a dois edifícios de apartamentos próximos. A intervenção teve como objetivo transformar a área num espaço centrado nas crianças, criando oportunidades de brincar ao longo do percurso do bairro. Tamaulipas é um símbolo de transformação, estabelecendo um precedente para a recuperação do espaço através de um design centrado no jogo de uma forma rápida e eficaz.

Something as simple as cutting back bushes to a height that allows the passers-by to see through them, can change people’s perception of danger or insecurity.

Implementation insights
Even when invited to participate some neighbours can be reluctant to be involved and some might also resist change. Sensible engagement should encourage dialog across different ages and family compositions to create a mutual understanding of the needs of other neighbours.
Solid commitments by local government are key for the sustainability of the interventions. Maintenance of green areas is critical, as the failure to maintain them over time brings back insecurity perceptions.
